Week 22...a week of highs and lows to be sure! The week started on another high--after having the 3 days and 3 nights without the boys over the weekend, Davey's ACTUAL birthday arrived on Tuesday. My "old man" (there's a laugh!) is now 26 years old <3. We spent the entire day together as a family, and Tommy was overly excited to go to his favorite spot, Starbucks, and get Daddy a special birthday drink and treat. We got Daddy a strawberry frappaccino and we each got a cake pop to help Daddy celebrate!
Tiramisu for the adults and "birthday cake" for the kiddos!

That evening I made Davey a special dinner of deviled chicken, homemade macaroni and cheese cups, roasted carrots and summer squash....and, homemade cupcakes! The remaining cupcakes went to PT the next day :) We sang 'Happy Birthday' to Daddy, and he blew out his "candle" (or tea light shoved into a cupcake to appease Tommy's love of blowing out candles!).

Davey actually asked for chocolate--what is the world coming to?!
"Ohhhhhh, great job Daddy!!"--Tommy
The awesome part about the candle tea light was that Tommy actually ate some of the deviled chicken in order to have a turn to blow it out! It's basically an oven-fried chicken type of dish, but since it doesn't look like chicken nuggets, we've never gotten him to even try it before! Maybe next time I make it he'll eat it without candles involved :)
On Wednesday it was back to work for Davey--boohoo!! I took Tommy to therapy while Davey took Ethan to see Dr. Shah. No ear infection for Ethan thank goodness, but as I type this 4 days later, his poor little nose continues to run--sigh. By the way, this seems like a good time to mention that Davey and I have
made the decision to NOT take the boys to the gym anymore again! We've all been sick for almost the entire month of May now! Afterwards, thank goodness Goggi took the boys for the afternoon. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't very cooperative, so no outside time BUT Heather Lord brought her grandson, Aiden, over and the boys got to play with another friend!
I headed back to her office though after I dropped them off so I could be seen. I had been feeling pretty bad for nearly 2 weeks, with a low grade fever over the past 10 days. It wasn't anything major, never going over 99.6 and was controlled by medicine. That said, I was extremely tired, and I could tell when my fever would break through the meds. And, after all, 10 days is a long time for that to go on! So, they did a number of tests on me, and here are the main findings:
1) I don't have diabetes or even pre-diabetes, and my numbers were great!!! Thank God!!
2) I have low Vitamin D...AGAIN!
3) My mono 'antibodies' (I think) were reactivated, but no acute mono. I spoke with my friend who works for Susie, JB, and she said it's confusing, but basically my body is acting like I have mono, but I don't actually have it. She said when this happens it usually only lasts for 2-4 weeks though instead of 2-4 months like mono!
So, that explains the excessive fatigue and 10 day low-grade fever. Thankfully, my little guys were there to help Mommy feel better <3

Moving right along...we'll stay with the lows for the week for a bit longer : / So, if you read the last post, you'll know Tommy had a stomach bug the previous weekend. Well, of course, once we got him home on Monday, he didn't poop again until Thursday evening. I'm not sure how to proceed with the details of this without being too gross. Let's just say he managed to push out something that didn't look like poop, and I was freaked out! Not to mention that he seemed to be in quite a bit of pain as he was trying to go #2. So, after a few conversations with Susie (so nice to have a doc on call!), we decided to take him to urgent care at 6pm for an abdominal x-ray. The poor little guy was a trooper. He obviously is not fond of doctor's offices with all of the issues he's had with his ears. He wasn't pleased to be there of course, but when it came down to the x-ray, he laid and stood perfectly still when needed as he calmly counted to 20 and then back down to 0--the Doctor was so impressed, and I was a proud Mommy! More importantly though, they didn't see anything too alarming. As predicted by Susie, his lower intestines however were shall we say "quite full", which is apparently a condition that is fairly common after a stomach bug where you don't eat for a couple of days (particularly for potty training kids who like to hold in their poop when they can!). So, a prescription for a month of miralax, and the waiting game begins for the 'Big Kahuna'--fun fun.
Well, after all of that, I say we move back to the highs! My Mom's birthday is June 5th, so we decided to do her family birthday dinner on Saturday. As I mentioned, it's Hayes tradition for the person celebrating their birthday to select a special birthday dinner. Back in the day, Mom used to kind of get screwed on this one a bit since she was the main cook when I was little. Now, I am the main responsible party for her birthday dinner since the boys don't cook (unless the requested item is grilled, then my Dad is the only option!). My Mom chose Italian sausage hoagies--made of 3 different types of sausage (sweet, sun-dried tomato, and spicy cheese), roasted green, red, yellow, and orange bell peppers and onions, toasted sweet Italian hoagie rolls, freshly sliced fontina cheese, and garlic mustard aoli spread! The sides, although none were really needed, were the same Mediterranean salad Donna chose for Em's graduation party, and fresh watermelon. Laura also made her homemade salsa and some delicious shortbread cookies, and I made my family's favorite white chocolate cupcakes. Needless to say, there was a massive amount of food left over!

mmmmmm, watermelon--had to have something healthy!
After waiting a few hours, we finally were able to think about eating some cupcakes, and Tommy was ready to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Grandma so that they could blow out the candles. Tommy might be missing some of the finer points of the birthday song--like the fact that it's not HIS birthday!!
Tommy and Ethan were pretty sweet to each other out on the deck (except for one 5 second cat-like brawl). Tommy was pushing Ethan around in the wagon, and then Tommy would promptly call out, "Mommy's turn" or "Grandma's turn" or "LoLo's turn" for the privilege of chauffeuring him around! Ethan actually fell once out of the toy box and right onto a wooden square abacus, and Tommy very sweetly said, "It's okay Ethan...it's not scary...it's okay!"
Aunt LoLo pushing Tommy around...notice how he's basking in the glory of his chariot ride!
Doesn't my big boy look so sweet here?!

Ethan chillin' in his sweet red ride :)
Hmmm, I'm not sure Ethy is quite big enough to pull big brother yet!
"Soooooo, which one of you lovely ladies is pulling me around next?!"
This would be right before the cat fight...Tommy doesn't look guilty at all.....
Ethan is his 3T Mickey Mouse pajamas--my baby is getting so big!!
To cap off the weekend high, Laura came over for our first summer "Diva" night! Our favorite summer show, by far, is "Drop Dead Diva". We've watched it religiously since it first aired 4 years ago. I'm telling you, it's must see! Laura provided the first beverages--homemade margaritas--there's a party in my tummy, so yummy, so yummy!!! We hope to have a group Diva night in the future, but episode one is just for us (and Davey--he's such a great sport!)!
